May 2010

Let's see what's been going on here that you might be interested in...

Julian's got his first loose tooth and he spent a good couple of days thinking about it a lot. I think he was mostly worried that if the tooth came out while he was eating he could swallow it and not have anything for the Tooth Fairy. He seems to have all but forgotten it for now which is a good sign.

We had the end-of-the-year meeting for the Response to Intervention (RTI) program to discuss Julian's behavior and wrap up the year. Everyone was pleased with Julian's overall improvement since January! Same as last time they wanted to congratulate themselves on a good intervention, but I think we all know it was mainly because of the wheat grass addition. His counselor recommended that his first grade teacher use the same intervention going forward which comforted me because I was worried that his next teacher would not be going along with that. Everyone was fine with advancing him to first grade as well. So on the whole, things seem to be looking up!

Kieran is blowing his speech therapists mind with his amazing progress. She met with him today and then called me afterward to tell me how ecstatic she was with him. He's been mimicking her which is great because eventually he'll get more words from that. She said he's pretty close to caught up so she is going to spread his appointments out to every other week or every 3 weeks. I mentioned that he wasn't using 2-word phrases yet and she said they don't get concerned until they're 2 and not using 2-word phrases. She told me to work with him on verbs and adjectives so he will have more words to put with his nouns to make the phrases. So I'm pretty excited about that little piece.

This past Saturday, Mike and I took the family down to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. We met up with 4 other families from my October 2008 birth board. We all have been talking with one another since we all met up on BabyCenter in February/March of 2008 when we all got out positive tests! And here we are over 2 years later and we've gone through 2 different forum sites together! Small groups get together and meet here and there and it's always exciting. This was a good looking group on Saturday too. Check it out in this picture I borrowed from my friend's Facebook:

We think right now Mike has the seasonal flu because he is absolutely miserable. So if my praying friends would add him to their prayer concerns we'd appreciate it. I'm hoping no one else gets it especially since Kieran didn't get vaccinated this year; can you believe his stupid pediatrician's office didn't offer the injectable flu vaccine this year?! What the heck?
