Ear tube FAIL

So we were going along just fine with Kieran's tubes when this week happened. He started back with a new cough this past weekend when we were enjoying our staycation in the city. I figured it was just a new cold and would heal on its own, but on Tuesday he developed a fever which got up to about 103 unmedicated (maybe higher). So at that point I thought he probably had one of the 5-6 childhood viruses that begins with a fever and ends with a rash after the fever breaks (roseola, Fifth Disease, etc.) so I was prepared to just wait it out. I stayed home with him Wednesday thinking he'd probably be out that day and the next. I didn't take him to the ped's office on Wednesday because at that point I was pretty much convinced he was experiencing a cold and the fever virus. By Thursday he was finding it very difficult to be separated from me even by several feet so I knew that the plan to leave him home with Daddy wasn't going to be good so I stayed home with him again and vowed to get him into the ped's office for a sick visit since we were home anyway. When he finally got looked at the pediatrician looked at his ears first and said the tube in the left ear was making its way out and there was an infection in there. I think the right ear looked ok. Then she looked at his throat and said it looked swollen and red which could be strep. Because we were going to be treating the ear infection already she didn't torture him with a throat swab to confirm strep. And we are back to 2 inhalers one three times a day and the other twice a day. We are treating him like an allergic/asthmatic kid (reactive airway disease). Anyway, no wonder he hasn't been sleeping very well this week or eating much! He felt like CRAP! I'm sure he'll be better soon, but for the diarrhea he's already got from the antibiotic.
